It's always tempting when travelling in a foreign country, especially one that speaks a different language, to opt for the 'tourist friendly' restaurants. You know the ones – fancy menus, designer décor, and waiters that speak impeccable English. However, those are the very places that are charging their patrons for the privilege of feeling comfortable, and in fact, it's often in the smaller, less well known establishments, where you find the locals, that the best food, and the best deals are to be had. I'm not saying you should frequent any old dive while on holiday, but look for smaller, less established places, that serve great, local food, and you're likely to get a great meal , at a great deal.
