How to Choose a Sleep Monitor

As if being a new parent wasn't stressful enough, research has shown that SIDS, or sudden infant death syndrome, is most common up to one year of age. This means that every time your baby sleeps, there is a risk. Since staying awake twenty-four seven to watch your little one sleep is probably not an option, you're going to need some way to ensure that your baby sleeps safely and comfortably. A sleep monitor is the answer. What these do is monitor the vibrations from breathing, and if that vibration stops for a few seconds, an alarm will sound, warning you, and often, reminding a baby with apnea to breathe again. There are two kinds of monitors – ones that fit under the mattress of a crib, and those that clip onto a diaper. The former is g reat if your child only ever sleeps at home, while the latter is perfect if your child sleeps elsewhere during the day, such as a daycare facility.
