Secrets of Making Your Own Jam

There was a time, many years ago, when most women would make jam. Usually, they did this to preserve the fruit that had been harvested. These days however, with most of us buying our fruit, and our jam, from the supermarket, and imports meaning everything is always in season, that practice has fallen away. Homemade jam does taste great though, and it is easy to make. To make your jam, simply select the fruit you want to use. This could be something soft, like strawberries, or a harder, stone fruit, like apricots or peaches. Prepare, peel, stone and chop your fruit, and place in a large saucepan, with enough water to just cover it. Add jam sugar to the pan, and then simply boil the mixture until it becomes thick. Stir occasionally, an d check the consistency. Once your jam is cooked and cooled, you can store it in clean, sterilized glass jars, although it will taste so great, you might not keep it for too long.
