Why You Should Treat a Squint Promptly

Sometimes newborn babies look a bit cross-eyed, but after about eight weeks, if the squint is still there, it could mean that there is an imbalance of the eye muscles or poor vision- If not treated promptly. Your baby's vision will suffer. One of the symptoms to look out for is if her eyes face different ways, especially if she tries to follow your finger. Her eyes may either face away from, or towards, each other. If you suspect a squint, consult your doctor. If your child needs to wear glasses or a patch over the stronger eye, encourage her to do so. Most young children accept the wearing of glasses and eye patches, if parents and friends accept it too. Sometimes, surgery, or injections into the muscles at about age tw o, or after, is carried out to correct the muscle imbalance.
