Secrets of Emoticons

If you're not terribly web savvy, chances are you won't know what emoticons, or smileys as they're commonly known, are. However, while they're not strictly appropriate for business conversations, if you chat to family and friends around the world, you will find them an amusing addition to your chat repertoire. Smileys, as the name suggests, started out with a little smiley face, created by typing a colon, and a bracket. After that first smiley, internet users around the world created new expressions, and plenty of other smileys. Nowadays, each platform uses many of the standard smileys, as well as some pretty unique ones. On Skype's chat platform, for instance, you can send flowers, coffee, or pizza, among other things. Facebook has robot smileys and even penguins. So have a little fun, and add a few smiley's to your chat!
