If you've been in the position to buy a new computer, or to think about it, you might have been wondering why memory, or RAM as it's known, is important. If you thought all that matters is a large hard drive and a cool screen, however, then you're in for a surprise! In fact, it's RAM, or Random Access Memory, that affects the speed at which your computer can process information. For example, if you want to edit or create graphics, an activity that requires a lot of processing, you might find that anything other two gigabytes of RAM just won't work. That's because there are too many processes your computer needs to do, and not enough ‘space' to sort through them. Bottom line? Make sure that when you buy a new computer, you get as much RAM as possible – that should keep you going for longer.
