Secrets of Staining Furniture

If you have pieces of wooden furniture that are looking old and tired, then staining them a deep, rich and dark color is a great idea, that will give them a new lease on life, and add a whole lot more style to your home. Staining wooden furniture is a simple process, and it's the preparation that actually takes the longest. You will want to remove any old paint layers using a paint stripper and scraper, and then sand any remaining flakes off the surface, as well as sanding the whole item lightly to give yourself a smooth and even surface to work with. Once your items are prepared, you can use most wood stains directly on the item, or mix them in with clear lacquer (check with the hardware store that the products you buy are suitable for the methods y ou choose) then apply with a brush or a small roller, taking care to apply them in thin, even layers and avoid drips. If you apply stain directly, you will need to finish with a coat or two of clear lacquer afterwards.
