Large international car hire chains like Avis are also present in South Africa, which makes hiring a car a simple process. Generally speaking, trains, buses and minibus taxis are not safe means of transport, although in certain areas, and during the day, they may be viable op tions. It's worth consulting your hotel or tour company to make sure when and where these are acceptable forms of public transport.
