How to Protect Your Data from Power Surges and Power Failures

In case you don't already know, your data, the precious information that you store on your computer at home and at work, is at risk of being lost if your computer suddenly loses power for whatever reason. Even laptops can be badly affected if the power supply is interrupted intermittently, and they have battery backup! The simplest solution to making sure that your data stays intact is to install a UPS, or uninterruptable power supply. These units are installed between the regular power supply and your computer, and while the power is on, they charge. When the power trips, you have anything from a few minutes, to a few hours, to shut down safely and preserve your information. Another mu st do is to make sure that the computer you buy is fitted with lightning protection, and that it is preferably plugged into a separate power circuit in your home or office.
