Secrets of Towing

Whether it's a boat, trailer or camper that you tow when heading on a summer holiday, or a friend's car in an emergency, there are some key safety precautions you want to take when pulling a load with your car. First off, you only ever want to use a professionally fitted, approved tow bar. If these are not fitted correctly, you run the risk that they will detach while towing, and cause an accident. Then you want to ensure that the GVW, or Gross Vehicle Weight, which is the weight of your car, its contents, and any weight it is towing, is not exceeded. Before you tow anything, make sure that you inspect your vehicle or object you are towing. Everything should be in perfect working order, including any electrical connections for lights and other mechanisms.
