As this was probably the most expensive dress you have ever bought, and wore it for only one day, it should be cleaned as soon as possible, and stored properly, until you decide what you are going to do with it. The fresher the stain, if any, the easier it will be to remove, especially if you know what caused the stain, so that the cleaner can treat it accordingly. Dresses should be professionally cleaned as soon as possible, as all stains oxidize over time, and become more difficult to remove. Once your dress is cleaned and fresh again, when the time comes, it will be ready to sell or give away, whichever you decide to do. Never attempt to sponge stains yourself, as the fibers swell, and once dried, the professional has to re-swell the fibers before the stain can be removed.
