Why Majorca is a Good Travel Destination

Majorca is the largest of the three Mediterranean Spanish Balearic Islands. The other two are Ibiza and Formentera. There are magnificent beaches, hills and mountains, with lots of rural farmland between small villages and hotels. The main languages are Catalan and Spanish, but most of the locals know some English. The economy is 80% based on tourism and the locals are mainly in the hospitality and tourism industry. The island is an autonomous Spanish region. Recently, the government injected a cash plan in the rural areas, providing farmers and landowners with money to buy livestock such as sheep and goats and mature olive trees. As simple as this plan sounds, it was quite successful at transforming the bleak land scape between the settlements into pleasant, lively scenic areas, which also provided the landowners with income from produce sold to local restaurants and merchants. The cuisine is mainly seafood based, with excellent meat dishes using the local lamb and mutton. Olives and almonds are present as ingredients in most of the food
