The common cold is caused by one of numerous viruses, mostly of the rhinovirus group. and because babies and young children need to build up an immunity to each of the many viruses, they usually get many colds while growing up, especially once they start nursery or playgroup. Sneezing, and a runny nose, a sore throat, and watery eyes are some of the symptoms of the common cold. There is also sometimes a mild cough, especially a night, when mucous runs down the back of the throat. There can also be a mild fever with the cold. As small children can't blow their noses, wipe your child's nose gently for him, using cotton wool rather than tissues. Also, give your child plenty of liquids. If you have a tiny baby with a cold, ha ve patience, as feeding will take longer, because he will find it hard to breathe and suck at the same time. There are many over-the-counter remedies that are very useful in helping to decongest your child's nose.
