The Secrets of Dehydration

Babies who are ill and vomiting, or have diarrhea, can lose fluids very easily, and become dehydrated, even more so when they have both symptoms at the same time, as in gastroenteritis. It is very important that you take your baby to the doctor, should she have any of these signs. It is equally important to be able to recognize the warning signs of dehydration. When your baby's nappies are drier than usual, it could very well be a sign that she is dehydrated. Your baby's skin will also become less elastic than usual, as dehydration progresses, such as dry, wrinkled skin on her tummy. Another sure sign that your baby is dehydrated is when the fontanel is sunken. Her eyes may also seem sunken, and she may become floppy and lethargic.
