Why You Should Own a Food Dehydrator

It may not be the sexiest kitchen gadget around, but a food dehydrator can save you a lot of money over time. These machines work with hot air to slowly remove the moisture from food, whether it's fruit, vegetables or anything else. Because all of the moisture is removed, you can store the dehydrated foods for much longer, in an airtight container, which means that you never have to worry about food spoiling. Dehydrated fruits and vegetables also retain most of their nutrients, and when added to water, or to soups, stews, or other dishes, they plump back up. Try making your own dried fruit, or dehydrating carrots, green beans or other vegetables to store for future use. Also a great idea if you have a vegetable garden or a few fruit trees!
