Why You Buying Wider Rims Won't Always Make Your Car Safer

Upgrading your car's wheels with wider rims can make a standard model look a whole lot sexier and sportier. In addition to the visual appeal, it is commonly thought that a wider tyre provides more grip and is safer than the manufacturer's standard width tyres. This is not always the case. It depends on the load that your car carries. By buying wider rims and tyres, the surface are that your tyre has in contact with the road's surface can actually decrease. This is due to no extra weight than normal being added to your car. What this means is that your car has a bit less grip than normal, which can affect braking distance and handling at faster speeds. In very wet weather, wider tyres are a disadvantage because the treads need to dis perse a lot more water to prevent your wheels floating on the water and not responding to steering input. Rather consult your motor vehicle dealership for advice and guidelines for any wide rim upgrades.
