Secrets of Winter Engine Oil

You probably aren't aware of this, but the way the oil in your engine looks, and how it performs, is closely tied to the time of year, and the ambient temperature. To make sure that your engine runs smoothly and properly in winter, there are a few things you should do. As a general rule of thumb, the colder it gets in your part of the country, the thinner the oil you will want to use. This is known as viscosity, and since the weather is cold around the car, more viscous oil will automatically become thicker, which could make your car work harder, or even lead to engine damage. Usually, the manufacturer of your car will be able to advise you on the best oil to use for the average summer and winter conditions in your area.
